The e-challan process is being integrated in Uttar Pradesh with the aim of promoting road safety and reducing road accidents. In this regard, significant steps are being taken through the joint efforts of the traffic police and the transport department, including the expansion of the e-challan portal, accident data analysis, and insurance integration, officials said on Monday.

Officials said a detailed action plan is being implemented to promote road safety and reduce the number of fatalities in road accidents in the state. After receiving approval in a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, the UP Transport Department and the Traffic Directorate, in collaboration with the traffic police, have started the integration of the e-challan process across the state at a rapid pace.
In this process, the challans of the traffic police and the transport department are being integrated into the e-challan portal. In the first phase, the process has been started in 17 districts of the state through NIC and to be started in the remaining districts soon.
This will not only make tracking of challans easier but will also enable swift action against default vehicle owners.
The UP Transport Department has completed the integration of all challans (traffic fines) linked to driving licenses through the Sarathi portal. An AI-based platform is also being developed to integrate the Vahan and Sarathi apps, e-DAR, IRAD app, and e-Challan portals.
An online dashboard is also being developed for accident data collection and analysis. The Transport Department has started integrated data on road accidents and challans in all districts through the e-DAR and iRAD apps, and corrective measures are being taken based on the analysis.
There are also plans to link e-challans with vehicle insurance and increase premiums for drivers with more than five challans. This will enable quick treatment and compensation in case of road accidents through an online process.
In a meeting held in November, Insurance representatives gave their in-principle agreement to the plan, but clarified that changes in premium rates would only be possible through IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India).
Additionally, traffic police and enforcement teams are being equipped with modern electronic devices to make challan enforcement more effective.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, these efforts will prove to be a milestone in making Uttar Pradesh a leader in road safety.
